Are You Drinking Enough Water?

Your body is comprised of about 65 percent water which is needed for various physiological processes and biochemical reactions, including blood circulation, eliminating toxins and metabolism.

Many of us think that we drink enough liquids throughout the day to keep ourselves hydrated, but if we counted all the beverages other than water that we might drink on any given day, we are more likely to be dehydrated. Most liquids such as coffee, black tea, soda, alcohol, Gatorade, and sugary fruit drinks do not hydrate the body like pure water can. We could even be dehydrated but not know it because we don’t feel thirsty.

Below are a few of the many reasons to drink more H2O throughout your day!

  • Weight Gain – Sometimes when we are thirsty we eat food instead of drinking water.  This can cause unnecessary weight gain, especially in a person who is less active. Drinking water throughout the day will help keep you from feeling hungry. It will also help you eliminate more toxins from your body. Eventually your body will stop telling you it’s hungry because you are giving it plenty of water. Staying hydrated throughout the day enables you to feed the tissues and cells in your body and that gets the enzymatic system moving, which releases fat toxins out of the body.
  • Digestion – Hydration is crucial to maintaining a healthy digestive system.  Along with fiber intake and exercise, drinking enough fluids is necessary for eliminating toxins moving through the digestive tract efficiently – without this, we gain weight, gain toxins in our body and constipation may follow.  Being constipated can lead to other health problems from allergies to toxic overload to digestive disorders, such as irritable bowel syndrome, gas bloating and stomach pain.
  • Energy – One of the first signs of dehydration is the feeling of being tired; some people may experience a headache and feel like taking a nap. When the body begins to dehydrate, the tissues and cells are not getting enough water resulting in diminished energy levels.
  • Skin – With proper hydration, the skin practically glows. Without it, our skin cannot properly rid itself of toxins and so it becomes irritated, inflamed, and congested, causing a host of unsavory results ranging from itching, blackheads, redness, acne, and general blotchiness.

Aim for 64oz of pure water a day!
