Losing weight was one of the most profound experiences of my life.

I call myself the first patient because I experienced first hand the pain of being overweight. I had gained weight so slowly that I wasn't even aware of it happening, until I was. I was a busy, active woman, taking care of 100's of patients in my Family Practice. But I wasn't taking care of myself. I tried different "diets" to get the weight off.

As a doctor, I knew that if I didn’t do something soon, my weight would keep going up.

I was doing a lot of things “right”, but I had to admit, something unhealthy was sneaking in there. I set out to find what I was missing. I was so moved by my success that I decided to specialize full time in Weight Loss Medicine. I figured, why "treat" patients for so many weight related illnesses, when I could prevent the illness in the first place.

Module 1: Lay the Groundwork

To kick off this program, we begin by laying the Foundation for Weight Loss Success. We will honor who you are and help you see your potential. You will learn a simple, straight-forward system to get in balance, control your hunger and start losing weight. We call it Pattern Interrupt, Weight Loss Momentum.I already know that you do lots of healthy things, and that there’s something missing. That’s why you don’t weigh what you want to weigh. There’s a lot of information out there! Contrary to popular belief, in my experience, if you knew what to do - you actually would be doing it. We’ll hone in on what’s missing so you can enjoy the health and achieve the weight you desire.

In this session you will:

  • Learn the simple principles of the program.
  • Get engaged, inspired and fired up to meet your future self
  • Explore what might be missing from your current approach

THROUGHOUT THIS PROGRAM YOU WILL GET:

Module 2: Work the Plan

You get to choose from several proven eating plan options. There are no wrong choices – just approaches that may work better for your body and your lifestyle. You can pick the plan that seems right to you, knowing you will have later opportunities to adjust based on what you learn in the process. We also start exploring what is really healthy (wow, there’s a lot of information out there!), and a I will teach you ways to get early momentum by losing weight quickly.

Module 3: Weight Loss is Not Personal

Let’s start exploring why we gained weight in the first place. Some of us have medical issues. Others have cultural norms. At times we’re just having too much fun. And at other times, the added weight serves to protect you. No matter the source, everyone leaves this session feeling better. You’re only encouraged to share what you’re comfortable sharing. You’ll start to set up and practice a process that moves away from good/bad, on/off thinking and asks only “when I do this, what happens?” We’ll continue to build both the self-acceptance and skills that work together and lead to success. We’ll leave lots of time for question and answers, sharing and some personal coaching here.

Module 4: Structure Your Environment for Success

Let’s get to the real nuts and bolts of weight loss! You will begin to structure your environment so that the odds of success go up. This is where we start getting specific as you build your success toolkit. Truth is, the more of these things you have in place, the greater your odds of success. And – we’ll blow the willpower myth apart while we’re at it!

Module 5: Learn to Course Correct

We're one month in and this is the time where some of our resolve and initial excitement can start to wane. We use this session to get over this first hump. It’s a perfect time to true up and adjust to our goals, reconnect and recommit. Learn the importance of taking a breath and taking a bow. We’ve come a long way and accomplished a lot. You will learn critical skills for dealing with slip ups, lagging motivation and big events in this module. Knowing what to do when you slip is just another skill!

Module 6: Navigate through Your Real Life

By this point, you are starting to see results! Your clothes are looser and people are starting to notice. You've taken lots of little steps to get to this point. This is where we can start to play a little more, try some new things to build more good habits into your everyday life. Plan for lots of lively discussion!

In this session you will:

Module 7: Happy AND Healthy

In this module we really begin to explore the mindset shifts that people who maintain a healthy weight often share. Achieving and maintaining your desired weight requires the balance between educating yourself, building new skills and a healthy helping of self-love and self-care. You’ll learn that weight loss is a process, not a project. As we move through this module, you will come to understand how our thoughts predict the outcome and discover that you can be both Happy AND Healthy.

Module 8:  Enough!

In Module 8, we will focus on this one word "Enough," which carries so much pain and confusion for so many (overweight) people. Like many of my patients, I’ve struggled with the idea that there was something wrong with me, that I was not enough. That seems to go along with the idea that there is not enough and the whole scarcity/abundance paradigm. We’ll have plenty of time to explore this idea and I will also introduce the flip side of this issue. One I call "That’s Enough!" It’s high time that we learned to push back, set appropriate limits and stepped into our POWER. There’s some serious skill building that goes on in this module so you won’t want to miss it.

Module 9:  Break Through Plateaus and Other Annoyances

In this session we address common obstacles and challenges. Sometimes the problem is invisible – a problem we call “the water you swim in” – you’re just so immersed in it, you can’t see it. We’ll work through a variety of scenarios so that you can properly interpret your state and give you skills to handle any situation. Personally, this is one of my favorite sessions. I have lots of insight into many of the things that may have a negative influence that you may not be aware of. Let’s take a look and see how we can turn those situations around.

Module 10:  Find Your Place at The Table

One of the common threads tying us together is that we are good at taking care of others. We focus on the needs of those around us, but we are often not as good at taking care of ourselves. It’s not that we need to become the top priority. After all, we’ve most likely made important commitments to work and family. It means that we must be one of the people we care for. It means we learn to take care of ourselves as well as we care for others. In other words, we help you find your place at the table.

We’ll provide lots of time to refine your skills and fine tune your environment so that maintaining a healthy weight is the norm. It will become more and more natural for you to ask for the care and support you need, at home, at work and in your community.

In this session you will:

Module 11:  Plan for the Future

It’s time to make any adjustments needed to reach our goals. It’s also time to take stock and consider our needs and desires going forward. Some of you will have already reached their goal by now and will be ready for a maintenance program. Some people will have started their journey and this will be a time to look at options for future support. As always, you will be encouraged to continue supporting and being supported by members of this community. We will chart your path going forward. Imagine it’s easy!

Module 12:  CELEBRATION Wrap Up

In this final session, we’ll have a lively discussion about what’s next! We’ll review some fundamentals, reminding you to stay the course as you manage your weight, so that your weight is not dependent on outside circumstances. For those of you who’ve reached your goal, we review maintenance skills and the mindset that will position you to succeed. Life will never be perfect and there will always be holidays and events that require some planning. We will teach you to walk the 150-lb. path.
